Over the next few days, I'll be helping you with a crucial step on the way - filling in a job application online, with excerpts from a report I've written.

If you'd like to get the full report, go to: Free Report If you're looking for work in the UK, you can get hold of a very good deal - e-book and one to one coaching for only £27, on the same site E-book and coaching

And now for the first excerpt:

How to Apply for Jobs Online

As technology advances, the process of jobhunting becomes more complex. If you want to increase your chances of gaining employment, you need to keep up with the latest developments. Some US companies no longer accept off line applications, finding that online methods cut costs and also reduce the time it takes to fill a job to about one month instead of three. The UK is catching on and catching up, with most graduate employers using the internet as at least part of their recruitment strategy.

So, what does applying online mean?

The answer is not straightforward! There are several ways of applying via the internet – and variations of each of those!

The main methods are: Using job boards, sending an electronic CV and filling in an application form online.

More tomorrow.

Interviews - presentations

Presentations: Today's article is on
"Presentations

If invited for interview or to take part in an assessment centre, you may well find that you have to give a presentation, which is fine if you're used to doing so in your job. But what if you've never given a presentation before? Here are a few tips to help you.

Giving a presentation is often part of the interview process and quite a frightening prospect for many candidates. The presentation generally lasts for 5 or 10 minutes and usually applicants are warned before the interview, although sometimes it's sprung upon them on arrival.

However, it's not as difficult as you might expect. Whichever situation you face, you can make sure you are well prepared. If you know the subject of your presentation in advance, this is obviously a great deal easier, but also means much more will be expected of you. So you must take the time to put together a professional presentation and practise it until you can do it in your sleep!"

It's important to research your subject thoroughly - even though you only have to
speak for 5 or 10 minutes, you need to show that you know your stuff.

You'll also need to prepare effective audio visual aids - these should be professional and reflect attention to detail as well as subject knowledge.

Interviews

Interviews: Preparing for a Job Interview

If you've been offered an interview for a job you really want, it pays to be well prepared. You've probably been stumped by difficult questions in the past and perhaps answered some of the not so difficult ones in ways that did not impress.

So, make a note of any interview questions you can remember from past experiences and really think about how you could answer them well.

Questions about your present, or most recent, job can be tricky and if you aren't careful you can ruin your chances by making negative or undiplomatic comments."

It's also important to research the company to which you are applying. This will enable you not
only to answer questions effectively, but also to ask some intelligent questions when your turn comes.

There are many books on the market which will help you uncover answers to difficult questions, but don't learn them verbatim, as this will sound stilted. You need to be able to adapt the answer to the question and the situation, which will differ according to the company and the position applied for.
